The ancient Gnostic teachers believed they had discovered a very important secret and that this secret knowledge or gnosis provided the answer to the Ultimate Questions. As a Neo-Gnostic, I respect the great Gnostic traditions and teachings as an important guide to helping human beings break free from the bounds of dogmas of all kinds -- religious, political, economic and spiritual. However, I remain an independent seeker working out my own salvation with Logos as my only companion.
The key to a gneo-gnostic perspective on faith is to not get stuck to the metaphor, as Joseph Campbell would say. The Matrix is a great gneo-gnostic cinematic achievement directly influenced by Joseph Campbell's work. The protagonist's name is "Neo", of course!
